Tried coworking at a hostel in Bangkok and got zero work done

I booked a bed at this highly rated digital nomad hostel in Bangkok thinking I'd crush emails between pool hangs, but the wifi dropped every 20 minutes and the common area smelled like stale beer at 9am. Spent more time hunting for a stable spot than actually working, ended up at a Starbucks 15 minutes away for three days straight. Anyone else found a decent alternative that's not a hostel or overpriced cafe?

Bro the "smelled like stale beer at 9am" part hit way too close to home. I had the exact same experience at this place in Chiang Mai last year. Thought I'd get all this deep work done but the "social lounge" was just a bunch of hungover guys arguing about crypto at full volume while someone tried to DJ on a laptop. Ended up working from my bunk bed with noise cancelling headphones for two days then bailed to a random WeWork I found. Not cheap but at least the wifi worked and nobody tried to sell me an NFT.

Man yeah that's rough, I just camped in cafes after that happened to me.

Quote you talking about "crushing emails between pool hangs" like that was ever gonna work. Honestly, what did you expect from a hostel in Bangkok? Those places are built for drinking not working. The wifi thing is annoying sure but you could have checked that before booking. And the smell thing I mean it's a hostel man. You're sharing a space with a bunch of random people who just traveled halfway around the world. Of course it smells like beer at 9am. Next time just book a cheap hotel room with a desk if you actually need to get stuff done. It costs the same as a hostel bed in most cases. The whole digital nomad hostel thing is just a marketing gimmick anyway.
