Bought a $200 sod cutter off Craigslist. Huge mistake.
Needed to redo my backyard lawn in Austin. Saw a deal on a used sod cutter. Machine broke down after 20 feet. Had to rent a proper one for $85. Anyone else get burned buying cheap tools for a one-time job?

Man, that Craigslist gamble never pays off with yard equipment. I'd bet money the seller knew it was on its last legs too.

Did you try hitting up a local tool library before buying?

I saw a thing on Reddit last week about those tool libraries, sounds like a solid idea. Somebody was saying how theirs has a whole section for yard tools, even the big stuff like tillers and stump grinders you'd only use once or twice a year. Way better than spending cash on something that's gonna break down after a season anyway. Plus you don't gotta worry about storing it or doing maintenance on it yourself. That's a huge win if you live in a small apartment like me where you barely have room for a broom.
