In my part of town, everyone is cutting down trees for more patio space, but I believe we need those trees for shade and clean air.

Totally agree. Cutting trees for a hot patio is pointless (and bad for the air).

Think about how cutting down trees for a patio backfires big time. They provide natural shade and cool the air (like, duh). @singh.olivia pointed out the air quality hit, but it also makes your outdoor space unusable in summer. That concrete gets so hot you can't even walk on it barefoot. Then you're stuck inside or blasting the AC, which uses more power and pollutes more. It's a dumb trade-off that costs you comfort and hurts the planet.

What's the plan when your new patio is too hot to use without any shade? Seems kinda backwards to trade living trees for a concrete slab that cooks in the sun. Real smart way to get more outside time.
