Just realized pea gravel is WAY better than mulch for my path.

I was all set to buy a truckload of red mulch for the walkway to my shed. Then my neighbor Steve told me his mulch turned into mud after one rain and he had to redo it every year. I grabbed 6 bags of pea gravel from Lowe's for $24 instead and laid it down last Saturday. After a week of heavy storms the path still looks perfect and no weeds poking through. Anyone else make the switch from mulch to gravel?

Mulch is basically just fancy dirt that rots right in front of your house. Paid for it one time, watched it wash away, never again. Pea gravel drains like a dream and stays put no matter how hard it rains. Weeds still try sometimes but they're easy enough to pull or blast with the hose. You made the right call, your neighbor Steve is learning the hard way.

Pea gravel is the ONLY way to go, mulch just attracts bugs and turns to mud.

Mulch keeps the soil cool and feeds the plants, so there's some value in the rot.
