Spent $300 on a pressure washer for my deck and it just made a bigger mess

I figured it would save me a weekend of scrubbing, but it just drove the old stain and mildew deeper into the wood grain. Now I'm looking at a full sand and restain job. Anyone have a better method for cleaning a weathered cedar deck?

Oh man that sucks! I tried to fix a squeaky door once with WD-40 and ended up having to replace the whole hinge because the stuff gummed everything up.
