Spent a whole Saturday trying to get a paver base level... ended up renting a plate compactor at 4pm

Idk what I was thinking. Thought I could just tamp it by hand with one of those manual tamper things. After about 3 hours of sweating and it still being uneven I gave up and drove to Home Depot. The rental cost me $65 for 4 hours and I had the whole thing done in like 45 minutes. Shoulda just done that from the start. Anyone else stubborn about renting tools when you could just do it the hard way first?

Did you try the hand tamper at least once before giving in?

Did you at least get to test out the "man vs. earth" theory before reality hit? That manual tamper is basically a medieval torture device for your back, not the ground. Bet your pavers are loving the plate compactor upgrade though.
