That time my rain barrel cracked in July heat

I was out back in Phoenix trying to water the tomatoes when I noticed a puddle under the barrel. The bottom seam split right open during that 115 degree week. Drained about 40 gallons of water into the dirt before I caught it. Patched it with flex seal and a piece of old inner tube, held up for the rest of summer. Anybody else have plastic stuff fail on them in extreme temps?

Is it really that bad or are people just overreacting about the heat?

Dude 115 degrees in Phoenix is enough to melt anything, I'm surprised your rain barrel didn't just evaporate into thin air. Flex seal's basically the only thing holding the American Southwest together at this point.

I saw some news report that said Phoenix hit 119 a couple years back and asphalt got so soft people were leaving footprints in it. I can't imagine what that does to plastic barrels. Heard someone on the news saying their garden hose actually melted into a puddle on the driveway one afternoon. Your flex seal comment is probably closer to the truth than people realize lol.
