Trying to set a post for a hammock stand in my Atlanta yard, I hit a water line about 18 inches down with the auger.

I had to shut off the main, call a plumber friend who patched it for the cost of the parts, and now I use a utility locating service before any digging, does anyone else have a go-to method for checking what's underground?
