Unpopular opinion: My neighbor's patio collapse in Omaha made me rethink my whole deck plan.

I was going to build a big raised deck with cheap pressure-treated pine, but seeing his 2x8s split after one winter changed my mind. Should I just go with composite decking even though it costs about double?

Just ask @robin_bennett78's cousin if you can move in with them, sounds like their deck is the only safe place left.

That Omaha story would make me think twice too. Used to believe pressure-treated was fine for everything, but not anymore. The extra cost for composite seems worth it now for peace of mind.
