Spent 4 hours trying to fix a corner bead that kept popping

I was dead set on using paper faced metal corner bead on a 90 degree corner in a basement remodel last week. Took me 4 tries and 6 hours total to get it to stop popping because the compound kept drying too fast on the paper face. Has anyone else had this issue with paper faced bead or did I just grab a bad batch?

Take a deep breath, it's just a corner bead.

Is it really that serious though? I mean, corner bead popping is annoying for sure, but taking six hours and four tries sounds like you might have overthought the whole thing. Can't help but wonder if a plain metal bead with a stapler would have saved you all that headache.

Paper faced bead is tricky with the compound drying thing, @luna891. Try wetting the paper with a damp sponge first next time, it slows down the drying and helps it stick better. Or just switch to vinyl bead and never deal with that pop again.
