I was steaming faces wrong for years until a client in Tampa pointed it out

I always kept the steamer about 12 inches from the skin, thinking closer was too hot. This client, who used to work at a med spa, asked why I was so far back and said their old boss taught them 6 to 8 inches max for real pore opening. Tried it on my next facial and the difference in product absorption was huge. How close do you all keep your steamers?

Been there... I used to hold mine way too far back too. It makes such a difference when you get the distance right. Glad you figured it out.

Honestly, how did we all miss this? I did the same thing for ages. Tbh, @loganl22 is right about the difference it makes. You need that 6 to 8 inch range to get the skin properly ready. Any farther back and the steam just cools off before it does its job. It feels way more effective when you get in close.

Samwalker's point about the steam cooling off hits on something I see all the time. People follow a rule without checking if it still works. Like always preheating an oven for 20 minutes when yours gets hot in five. Or standing way back from the microwave because you were told to, even though new ones are fine. You just get used to doing things one way and miss the simple fix.
