Shoutout to the esthetician who told me to double-check my steam machine's water level before every single client
I saw a client's face get way too red after a treatment last month, and it turned out my machine was running dry and putting out super hot, harsh steam instead of a gentle mist.

Actually, that harsh steam is more likely from mineral buildup than just being dry. A dry machine usually just stops putting out steam.

Totally forgot about the heating element itself getting too hot. If the water level is low but not empty, that metal coil can overheat and basically boil the tiny bit of water left way too fast. That creates that mean, spitting steam. Seen it happen with a cheap travel iron that didn't have a proper low water cut off.

Wait, is that really a common problem? My machine just shuts off automatically if the water gets too low. Maybe it's a specific brand thing or an older model without safety features.
