The $50 home inspection add-on that saved me from a $5,000 surprise
When I bought my first place in Cincinnati last fall, the inspector offered a sewer scope for an extra $50. I almost said no, but the old cast iron line from the street was completely blocked by roots. The seller had to pay to replace the whole 40 foot section before closing. Without that camera look, I would have been stuck with the bill and a huge mess a month after moving in. What other inspection add-ons have you all found to be worth the extra cash?

Man, that's a WIN. Our guy did a thermal scan and found a cold spot in the living room wall. Turns out, the previous owners "fixed" some rot with just spray foam and new siding. There was a whole section of framing we had to replace. That cheap scan showed exactly where the problem was hiding. It saved us from a way bigger repair down the road.

Wow, that's a crazy find but also a huge relief to catch it now. How much extra work did it end up being once you opened up the wall? I've seen some bad cover-up jobs before, but foam over rot is a new one.
