I used to skip video testimonials for our site, but a client's story convinced me.
I mean, I thought they were too salesy and no one would watch. Idk, maybe it's just me but the engagement on that page is way up now.

We filmed our last one on a client's phone while they were actually using the product. The raw footage with the bad lighting and background noise did way better than our old studio shots. People seem to connect with the unpolished reality of it, like seeing the actual workspace over their shoulder. It's hard to argue with a genuine moment, even if the production value is basically zero.

My local library switched from slick event posters to staff cellphone videos. The shaky clips of actual kids doing crafts got triple the signups. That messy realness just works better now.

When you said it's hard to argue with a genuine moment, that really hits home. Polished ads feel so scripted now that they just bounce off people. Audiences can smell a sales pitch from a mile away, but a real person in a messy room? That's relatable. It's almost funny how much better low-fi stuff performs when you stop trying to make everything perfect. Soon enough, some brand will try to fake this style and we'll be back to square one.
